Ceremonial Cacao
Serves 1
Ingredients:
- 10 ounces almond milk (or water)
- 1 ounce ceremonial grade cacao flakes (about 2 heaping tablespoons)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 3 shakes cinnamon
- 1-2 shakes cardamom
- 1-2 shakes salt
Instructions:
- First, bring your almond milk to a gentle boil in a small pot on the stovetop. Watch carefully to prevent boiling over.
- While the milk heats, add your cacao flakes, maple syrup, cinnamon, cardamom, and salt to your serving mug.
- Once the milk reaches a boil, remove it from heat and pour it over the ingredients in your mug.
- Now for frothing - you have three options:
- For the smoothest result: Pour everything into a blender and blend until thoroughly combined and frothy
- For a quick option: Use a handheld milk frother to combine and create foam
- For a simple approach: Stir thoroughly with a spoon until well combined
The hot liquid will help melt the cacao flakes as you mix. Stir occasionally while drinking to prevent settling.
For best results, take a moment to enjoy the aroma and drink mindfully - ceremonial cacao is traditionally consumed as a meditative practice.
