We are Yoga Cacao

We have a connection to one of the most amazing Organic Cacao Farms in Guatemala.

My friend started the farm over a decade ago with his wife, who is a Guatemalan woman of Mayan decent.

Together, they have reforested a whole mountainside with cacao, cardamom, rubber and other trees. It is an ecological project at heart.

They are growing only the best types of traditional cacao that was coveted by Mayan and used in their ceremonies for centuries.

The more we learn about cacao, the more we are learning that it is one of the most potent superfoods on the planet.

We believe that pure cacao can be a catalyst for health - of the planet, the community, and the body, mind & spirit.

(That being said, we are just starting to distribute this cacao and our packaging is changing. So, while we guarantee you will receive the best quality cacao on the planet, we cannot guarantee the package will look the same as in our photos.)

Hand Selected

Heirloom cacao means diversity, cross-pollination, and variety. We find this natural richness in every pod.

Once these heirloom cacaos grow and provide pods, we select each bean to bring back the cacao criollo. The careful selection filters out the white, cacao criollo, bean and separates them from the rest: the darker the pigment, the closer it is to the other varieties. The difference rolls off the tongue.

Toasting

Our beans are toasted to perfection, thanks to our same dedication. Small-scale means easy to control and perfect. Our toasted grains capture the essence, flavor of raw cacao and hold the basis for all our products. The process retains the natural sweetness and prepares the fresh beans for their treatment: grinding, processing; all done on site.

Grinding the Beans

The high quality comes from the ancestral processes of stone ground cacao, to recapture its essence. Once the peeled beans have been toasted, we take our time to grind the cacao until the dust and paste form. It releases the aroma, awakes the senses and captures the natural ingredients in the beans, like cocoa butter. As a result of cacao criollo beans, the amassed ground cacao is already flavorful and less bitter than the other varieties.

The Final Product

Our cacao products are full of active ingredients of cacao criollo. The final product has to do with the variety we are working to capture, making this source of benefits and medicinal properties accessible. The results and the experience are directly related to the care –from the planting of the trees, the agroforestry maintenance, to the harvest and the processes in the hands of our community; from trees to our customer’s health.

True Meaning

In this sense, we are not just rescuing the essence of cacao –be it in a drink, a bar, or in a ceremony: we are giving back to the earth. The more cacao we can produce and share, the more our biodiverse forest will grow. The hill and slopes of Finca El Porvenir, rich with fauna and flora, are a service to our products but mostly ensure the longevity of growing ecosystems, in the hope of motivating others into reforestation and sustainable agriculture.
